All you ever wanted to know about Agouti Music
Agouti Music was started back in March of 1997 in the broadcasting studios of California State University, Hayward . The original idea was an all ska radio show called "Agouti Ska." After time the show was expanded include a broad spectrum of music. Since then, Agouti Music has moved on to become a comprehensive resource for independent music.
Using state of the art hardware and software (read: scraps from junked servers and fried PCs), Agouti Music provides visitors with reviews, feature articles and interviews with artists in the indie scene, and current concert listings for the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
Submissions and Inquiries
If you want to be reviewed by Agouti Music, please read the following:
Don't email us. Read this page completely.
We get lots of CDs every month.
We listen to ALL submissions.
Our writers review as many as they can (and remember, sometimes no review is better than a bad one).
Please check out the site and take a look at the reviews. Looking to get your high-energy, polish-salsa, breakbeat, barbershop quartet that covers only national anthems reviewed??? Ok, that may be weird enough to pique our interest, but the point is this: please use your judgement. It pains us when artists spend good money sending us stuff we'll never review.
Need a review because you're on track to be the next American Idol? You can count on an unfavorable review if you get reviewed at all.
If all you have to send us is a burned CD with your name written in Sharpie, don't bother. We wish you all the success in the world, but you're not ready to be reviewed by Agouti.
If you've made it this far and want your album reviewed, please send it here:

PO BOX 3092

Patience is a virtue. Please understand that if you send a CD on the 30th of the month, it just might not appear on the next issue. Take a breath, eat dinner, maybe a bubble bath, whatever you do, don't email us every day asking when we're going to post your review.

We have a great group of talented writers here and are always looking for music-obsessed, opinionated, writers to join the crew. We meet monthly in the SF Bay Area, but we have authors across the country. If you've got stuff to say, and want to join the team, contact us here.
What is an Agouti?
The agouti (Dasyprocta variegata) is a rodent scavenger that lives on the ground of dense rain forests of South America. This small-eared animal feeds on fruits, leaves, and roots. It can grow to a length of two feet (61 cm) and weigh up to four pounds (1.8 kg). Using its long legs, an agouti moves with a jumping motion, not unlike a deer. Agouti couples usually bear two young. When born, the young are fully capable of taking care of themselves, but remain with their parents for as long as 20 weeks. Jaguars often prey on the agouti.
